Acer as a brand receives a lot of gaming attention because their models are full of purpose. It goes without saying that our next monitor of focus is equally monstrous and attention-grabbing. We are talking about the Acer Predator Z35. Labeled as the fastest curved screen around, we have nothing but praise for this model.

  • Supports Nvidia G-Sync technology
  • High Contrast
  • Ultrawide screen

Cons

  • 1080p resolution

Design Features

Acer Predator Z35 is an ultrawide monitor featuring a 35-inch curved screen. It is based on a VA (Vertical Alignment) panel which has the best contrast ratio in panel technologies. It looks good whether you are viewing it in a dark or a bright room as its brightness does not fluctuate.

We find the thick black bezels beautiful complemented by brushed metal accents. The monitor has a 2560 x 1080p resolution which is not very exciting. But it is a non-issue when you start to game, because all you get is vivid images that are motion blur-free. We like that it has a 21:9 aspect ratio meaning it can give you a cinematic experience.

With its matte, anti-glare coating, you can draw the curtains in a sunroom and still game without eye strain. The monitor comes with a red and black aluminum stand which offers ergonomic adjustments in the likes of -5 to 25 degrees tilt and up to 5 inches height. It does not allow you to pivot the monitor.

Acer Predator Z35 offers a futuristic setup with four ambient lighting modes on six LEDs at the bottom bezel. The lighting can be adjusted using the settings so that you can have perfect lighting effects on your gaming station.

This monitor also offers comfortable viewing. It features blue-light filtering and EyeProtect Flicker-Less technologies to protect your eyes from strain and fatigue. You can have at it with your favorite FPS and MOBA games without suffering the consequences.

Set up, Controls, and Connectivity

Since this is a hefty machine, you will receive it in a large carton that has a handle to help bring it up to your station. You can forget about portability because the monitor weighs a whopping 25.9 pounds.

Assembly is not involving as all you have to do is slide the base into the stand and tightening it using one bolt. Nothing else is required because the stand is already attached to the rear of the panel when you receive the monitor.

This model is one of those that gives you lots of options when it comes to the customization. It comes with six physical buttons at the bottom of the bezel. You will be able to navigate the menu although it is not the most straightforward. The OSD (On-Screen-Display) menu offers a variety of options including changing the brightness, blue light, adaptive contrast sliders, dark room filters, and even eColor presets.

When you want into detailed calibration, you can do that in the picture mode. It is tolerable out of the box, but if you're going to make changes, you can adjust the gamma, luminance, white balance, RGB, color, etc. You can expect extreme accuracy which accounts for perfect color and white balance.

Acer Predator Z35 also gives you appealing gaming features in the likes of aim-point crosshair targets which makes it easy to zero-in on your targets. Not to mention five customizable picture presets and you can save your custom settings in three profiles.

At the rear of the panel, you will find all the ports. Unfortunately, they are all facing downward which makes them difficult to access. The monitor has a DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 1.4, four USB 3.0 ports, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a DC power plug. You have to use the monitor with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 Boost or superior together with the DisplayPort to realize G-Sync up to 200Hz.

Acer Predator Z35 also gives you powerful 9-watt speakers. They are probably the best as they have distinct bass that you may not have to connect it to your music system all the time.

Image Quality and Display Performance

Picture performance on the Acer Predator Z35 is more than excellent. It has a refresh rate of 100Hz which can be ramped up to 200Hz depending on the game and whether or not you are using G-Sync. Although it has low pixel density, the screen showcases sharp, crisp images thanks to its 1190:1 contrast ratio.

The monitor offers 396 nits of brightness at the highest which is one of the best in the gaming monitor world. It produces dark blacks and dark shades of grey without oversaturating the reds, greens, and blues. You won’t notice any tinting which is as a result of the high color accuracy expressed by this brand.

This monitor shows its stunning gaming performance using G-Sync anti-tearing technology. It has speedy 4ms response rate and an input lag of 18.2ms. It is in line with fast command times which helps to accomplish skills much faster on your controller.

Acer Predator Z35 also explores Nvidia ULMB which can come in handy if you still see trails of motion blur when playing at the highest refresh rate. It means you have to turn off G-Sync and game at 120Hz which seems counterintuitive. But at 120Hz, you may experience the smoothest gaming experienced by most gamers.

Flaws of Acer Predator Z35

Even though this monitor is ultrawide, it still suffers from less than ideal viewing angles. This means when it is being used for multimedia like watching movies, not many people can enjoy its deep, vibrant, colors at an angle. The monitor does not also support HDR gaming.

Conclusion

Acer Predator Z35 is excellent at a lot of things, and gaming is just one of them. The full HD resolution screen supports multimedia use while its fast response rate, low input lag, and G-Sync adaptive refresh technology offer superior gaming features. You can game with confidence even if you don’t explore up to 200Hz refresh rates as it has native 100Hz refresh rate.

With an ultrawide screen and a display that processes top-notch pictures, it’s going to be a blast with this monitor.
